Online Safety
At Grasmere, Online Safety is at the core of our Computing Curriculum. Children are taught from Nursery how to keep themselves safe on line.
How to Deal with Concerns at Home
If at any point you have any concerns about your child’s safety on line please report it to CEOP (a police led online crime and safety service) using this link:
Reporting online issues or bullying
CEOP always recommend the following;
- If you need urgent help, i.e, your child is in immediate danger such as meeting a stranger they have met online, then call 999.
- Don’t delete any emails, images or conversations related to this report
- Don’t contact the suspect yourself. Let us do the detective work
Most sites will have their own report buttons too or facility to block people and pages that cause you concern.
Here are some videos which you may want to watch with your children. We recommend that you watch them first as although they have approximate age appropriate guidance, every child and every family is different.
Lee and Kim’s Adventure is aimed at 5-7 year olds but as a school we will use this video up to Year 5.
Jigsaw is aimed at 8-10 year olds. As a school we will use this video in Year 6.

Use of digital images – photography and video
To comply with the Data Protection Act 1998, we need parent/carer permission before we can photograph or film your child.
We follow rules for any external use of digital images:
- If the pupil is named, we avoid using their photograph
- If their photograph is used we avoid naming the pupil
- Where we are showcasing example of pupils’ work within the school, we will only use their first names
- If showcasing digital work to an external audience we take care to ensure pupils’ names are not referred to and pupils’ full names are not given in credits at the end of the film.
- Only images of pupils in suitable dress are used
- Staff are not allowed to take photographs or videos on their personal equipment unless it is registered with the school.
Examples of how digital photography and video may be used include:
- Your child being photographed (by a classroom teacher, teaching assistant, learning support assistant or another child) as part of a learning activity.
- Your child’s image for presentation purpose around the school (e.g. as a prefect).
- Your child’s image being used for presentation about the school and its work in order to share good practice and celebrate its achievements, which can be shown to parents, school or educators.
