The Big Read
Across Year 2 and Year 3 we teaching The Big Read. Written to develop a discussion based curriculum, The Big Read supports children to develop skills of comprehension, first through unpicking vocabulary, and then moving on to unlocking the meaning of whole texts through critical appreciation. Drama is often used to act out scenes from the book or as a way of empathising with a character or a situation and all children are encouraged to voice their opinions. The children read a broad range of texts, including fiction and non-fiction, stories, reports, diaries and poems and demonstrate their understanding of these through carefully worded questioning.
