Spanish

At Grasmere, all pupils from Nursery to Y6 have a weekly Spanish lesson. Our Spanish specialist teacher is Raquel Tola Rego who is a lead practitioner in Hackney. 

Pupils learn through songs, games and fun activities that develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. The focus in EYFS and KS1 is on listening and speaking, although by the end of Y2 pupils will be able to read familiar words and short phrases with understandable pronunciation. By the end of Y6, pupil’s knowledge of Spanish phonics is very secure, and they are able to speak and read with excellent pronunciation. They will also read and write short paragraphs on familiar topics.
