Home Learning

HOME LEARNING

Please see below for information about the distance learning the school would offer in the event of school closure or if your child is self-isolating due to a positive COVID test for themselves.

Home learning will be available for each year group. This will vary according to the year group to ensure it is age-appropriate and meets the needs of the pupils. It will include things such as:

  • Daily online sessions for a range of subjects areas, via Seesaw (all pupils have been given their own passwords) and Google Classroom. This will include recorded teaching inputs and activities to complete,
  • ‘Live’ Story reading sessions, via a secure link on Google Classroom,
  • A ‘live’ weekly assembly, via a secure link on Google Classroom.

Year groups will also be setting additional activities to complete throughout the week and signposting you to additional resources to support learning at home. All pupils will also receive a ‘catch-up’ phone call once a week from a member of staff.

Learning Platforms

We use two learning platforms for our daily learning- Seesaw and Google Classroom.

Seesaw

Seesaw is an accessible learning platform that provides a secure space for teaching staff and children to upload and comment on work. Children will have daily tasks to complete and upload and staff will respond daily with written feedback or further challenges.

If your child has lost their login, please please contact your year group team via their year group email address (e.g.  yearone@grasmere.hackney.sch.ukyeartwo@grasmere.hackney.sch.uk etc…) and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Additional information for specific year groups will be emailed from these addresses.

How to log in to Seesaw:

Google Classrooms

We encourage all pupils to complete their distance learning online, via the Google Classroom platform. This is an interactive tool where children can view and submit work in their own class and also interact with their teachers.

If your child has forgotten or lost their Google Classroom log in, please contact your year group team via their year group email address (e.g.  yearone@grasmere.hackney.sch.ukyeartwo@grasmere.hackney.sch.uk etc…) and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Additional information for specific year groups will be emailed from these addresses.

The school will continue to complete our weekly newsletter. Please do send in additional projects and photos of activities completed to your year group email address as these will also feature in the newsletter alongside examples of work completed online.

Home Learning Expectations:

In line with government guidance, depending on the age of your child, we aim to offer a minimum of 3-4 hours of provision per school day.. Each week we send out a suggested timetable for each year group which gives information about the lessons that we will upload as part of our main distance learning offer. However, this is just a guide. We understand that every household is different, and we aim to make our remote learning offer engaging, supportive and interactive, but also flexible to fit around busy and differing family schedules.

There are some activities that we would recommend that children do each and every school day, such as reading, mental maths (times tables/number bonds) and something for their well-being such as moderate exercise, stretching or listening to music.

In keeping with government guidance:

The school will:

  • – Provide sufficient work to ensure children are able to continue learning when at home during term time.
  • – Provide a suggested timetable for parents to follow if they wish.
  • – Set work sufficient for each week.
  • – Use the school website to post work so all families who are able to, can access.
  • – Print packs out weekly for those families who are unable to access the internet or a printer.
  • – Check in weekly on each child to see how they are and how they are finding the work.
  • – Check more vulnerable children and families twice a week.

Parents will [assuming child and parent are well]:

  • – Find time and space for the child to do the work set by following the suggested timetable
  • – Support the children in their work if necessary.
  • – Ensure the children are doing the work to the best of their ability.
  • – Ensure work is kept in a book or folder [the school will provide this]
  • – Ensure children are reading regularly and keeping a reading diary.

Please see our Covid-19 policy for further support and information.
